Response Paper #1

The most recent movie I have seen is “300” directed by Zack Snyder. I choose this movie because I heard it was really good from one of my friends and it sounded like it had a lot of action in it and action movies are my favorite kind. The main topic in “300” is a war between Sparta and Persia where Persia is trying to invade and enslave Sparta. Some major events that happen in the movie are of course battles between the two countries and a big topic of discussion is how Persia will enslave and ruin the Spartan Empire. This video does not relate to me at all mainly because I have never been attempted to be enslaved and I have never fought in a war. I find these types of movies and books very interesting so the amount that I watch them is more often than not. I probably see a movie like this at least twice a month but to find one as good as “300” is going to be a task. My opinion on “300” is that it is an absolutely incredible and brilliant movie. The way the acting is makes me feel like I am actually there and the amount of detail is spectacular. I love action in movies and “300” has a lot in it so to me the movie is perfect. Another great thing about “300” is that the historical part of it is right on track. Zack Snyder did not add any extra battles in it and did not make the battle end in a different way than it actually did. He stuck to what history says and still made a great movie out of it. I really learned a lot from this movie. For example why Sparta went to war with Persia was because they were about to be enslaved as I have already previously said. I also learned how a phalanx works and how the men fight and why they fight that certain way. The biggest thing that I learned and always wondered was why they only took such a small amount of men with them to battle and it was because the king couldn’t legally take more than that or else it would be considered war and he was not approved to go to war. There is nothing in this movie that I would want to change because everything in it serves a purpose and without it the movie would not be the same.

  1. Matt,
This is kind of funny because a number of years ago my roommate urged me to watch "300" and I couldn't handle more than 10 minutes of it! This just goes to show that we all have different likes and interests, and your enthusiasm for this film definitely comes across in your review.
